CLEVELAND - Last year's Kentucky Derby winner, Animal Kingdom, will make his 2012 debut on Saturday in an Allowance race at Gulfstream Park in Florida.
The colt has not raced since taking a sixth place finish in last year's Belmont Stakes, and suffering a fracture to his hind leg. Since then he has been training in Palm Meadows, Florida. Originally scheduled to run in a stakes race next weekend at Tampa Bay Downs, the trainer thought it would be better to run on the turf at Gulfstream and use this allowance race as a prep race for the Dubai World Cup at the end of March.
The lineup for the 1 1/16 mile Allowance race from the inside post out is as follows:
1. Tannersville, Jockey L. Jurado 12-1 2. Bell by the Ridge, Jockey K Desormeaux 15-1 3. Monument Hall, Jockey J. Castellano 3-1 4. Midnight Mischief, Jockey R. Maragh 6-1 5. Royal Hall, Jockey P. Lopez 5-1, 6. Animal Kingdom, Jockey J. Velazquez 4-5
The race is scheduled for 2:25p.m. (EST)
Early London odds for the Dubai Word Cup on March 31, 2012 currently have Animal Kingdom and Smart Falcon listed at 6-1, and So You Think as the favorite at 7/2.
