Sources: Browns looking into bringing back Derek Anderson

BEREA, Ohio - Sources have told NewsChannel5 Sports that the Browns are looking into bringing back former Browns quarterback Derek Anderson.

Anderson posted on his Facebook page Friday night: "Looks like it is time to make a return to a familiar place for some unfinished business."

Anderson went on to say: "I would be honored to return to Cleveland to play football if the fans would have me."

Browns fans still haven't forgotten what Anderson said after his release in 2009. In an email to a Browns beat writer, Anderson said. “The fans are ruthless and don’t deserve a winner,” Anderson said. “I will never forget getting cheered when I was injured. I know at times I wasn’t great. I hope and pray I’m playing when my team comes to town and [we] roll them.”

Anderson was the backup quarter to Cam Newton in Carolina last season where Browns Head Coach Rob Chudzinski was the team's offensive coordinator. Chudzinski was also the Browns offensive coordinator when Anderson was here in Cleveland in 2007 and 2008. In 2007, Anderson had a breakout season under Chud throwing for 3,787 yards and 29 touchdowns, starting 15 of the team's 16 games that season.

Anderson, through a source, has said he puts his chances of coming back to Cleveland at about 80 percent right now. The quarterback still owns a house on the west side and at 29 years old is ironically the same age as Browns rookie quarterback Brandon Weeden. Anderson feels he could compete for a starting job and at the least help Weeden learn Chudzinski's offense.

Anderson is an unrestricted free agent in 2013.
