CLEVELAND - The Cleveland Browns were nowhere near the Super Bowl this year. But right now, a current Browns player has the edge on the reigning Super Bowl MVP.

Running back Peyton Hillis is leading Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers in the semi-final matchup to be on the cover of Madden 12. This is the first year that EA Sports has allowed fans to pick the cover star, and fans can vote on ESPN’s website.

Voting started on Monday, and Hillis jumped out to a big early lead thanks to online efforts led by Browns fans. A Facebook page urging fans to vote for Hillis had over 3,200 “likes” on Friday. Fans can vote through the weekend.

ESPN will not say how much Hillis is leading by, and the winner will be announced Monday. If Hillis advances, he will face the winner of Michael Vick vs. Adrian Peterson.

The contest is set up in bracket similar to the NCAA tournament, with players from all 32 teams in the running.

So far, Hillis has also beat out Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice and Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. As a 10 seed, Hillis was one of the underdogs from the start of the bracket, and he is the lowest seed remaining.
