BEREA, Ohio - 10:50 pm update: ESPN is reporting Chip Kelly will return to Oregon.

A twist in the Cleveland Browns search for a new head coach. ESPN is reporting that Oregon head coach Chip Kelly is no longer a part of the team's plans.

According to a tweet by ESPN's Chris Mortensen, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, along with team officials, are coming back to Berea empty handed after reportedly meeting with Kelly in Arizona who said no to joining the team. Mortensen adds the team will "reboot" the search for a new coach.

A league source with knowledge of the conversations said the Browns actually stepped away from the talks with Kelly because they felt he was very indecisive on whether he wanted to coach in the NFL or go back to college.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Saturday night that Kelly was going to chose between the Eagles, who he met with for nine hours on Saturday or heading back to Oregon, where booster and alum Phil Knight, the founder of Nike got involved to try and persuade Kelly to come back. Kelly was expected to make the decision by the end of the weekend.

Late Sunday night CBS Sports.com NFL writer Jason LaCanfora tweeted that sources had told him that Kelly was in fact staying at Oregon and he added, we shall see.

Oregon's Kelly had been high on the Browns list of potential head coaches. The Browns also met twice this week with Syracuse head coach Doug Marrone. On Sunday, Marrone was reportedly hired by the Buffalo Bills.

This is not the first time Chip Kelly has been indecisive, last year Kelly left the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the altar deep into negotiations.

The Philadelphia Eagles also wanted Kelly as the team's next head coach. But so far, there are no reports on whether Kelly has a future with the Eagles, or any NFL team. Kelly could head back to Oregon, after his team beat Kansas State in this year's Fiesta Bowl.

The Browns will now turn their sights on the next set of coaches on their list. Names of available candidates include, Indianapolis Colts Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt, who was fired by the Cards last week and interviewed by the Browns earlier in the week. The Browns are also expected to interview Marc Trestman, who spent 17 years in the NFL and was the Browns Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks coach in 88-89. He is currently the head coach of the Montreal Alouettes in the CFL.

The clock is no doubt ticking on the Browns who wanted to wrap up their search quickly. It's obvious that college coaches like Saban, Kelly and Marrone were all high on their immediate list but that has all changed with a flurry of interviews over the past 72 hours. Get ready for another week of names and possibilities.
