Browns punter Reggie Hodges carted off field; Phil Taylor still holding out

The story of Tuesday's practice was an injury during the special teams period. Punter Reggie Hodges was carted off the field with a "left foot injury," according to head coach Pat Shurmur. Hodges injured his foot during the team punt period. Shurmur was not certain on the severity of the injury.

The other story Tuesday was the absence of Cleveland's first round pick, Phil Taylor, who still remains unsigned. The former Baylor defensive lineman posted on his Twitter account Monday night that he was hoping to be on the field Tuesday, but that tweet turned out to be false hope, for now.

Taylor was not on the field in Berea on Tuesday.

It seems that the organization's top priority is to sign their top pick, but now four days in, and we still do not know when Taylor will arrive at camp.

Shurmur remained positive on his ongoing contract situation. "We're working on that, we'll get him here soon," he said after practice. Shurmur indicated that when the talented rookie does put the pads on, he will be getting time time from the get-go. "When he gets in (to camp), he'll be in there."

On the field, practice has been sharp. The dog days of summer are upon us, yet scuffles and fights have not been an issue. With receivers Mohamed Massaquoi and Josh Cribbs remained sidelined with injuries as of today. During their absence, Colt McCoy is getting used to his new weapon, rookie wide receiver Greg Little, and last year's camp star, Jonathan Haggerty.

As long as Massaquoi and Cribbs continue with their version of the Tour de France on the sidelines bikes, McCoy will be getting used to his young receiving core. Haggerty made some nice catches over the middle during team drills, as McCoy looked his way often. The receiving core as a whole, though, dropped a number of passes during the team blitz period.

Montario Hardesty, second year running back, was held out of practice again for precautionary reasons.
