BEREA, Ohio - Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said it best when describing practice on day 17 of training camp on Monday morning. It was one of those dog days of training camp.

The 15 players who missed practice on Sunday afternoon also missed practice this morning. The list includes linebackers D'Qwell Jackson and Scott Fujita, wide receiver Travis Benjamin, tight end Ben Watson, defensive lineman Frostee Rucker and defensive back Usama Young.

Shurmur following practice also gave an update on top pick running back Trent Richardson. He's here in town and working to get back on the field as soon as possible following his knee surgery last Thursday, but there is no timetable for his return.

Both Montario Hardesty and Brandon Jackson split time today with the first team offense. Hardesty did take more snaps with the first team and should be the starting running back on Thursday night at Lambeau Field. Brandon Jackson will get some time against his for team along with Chris Ogbonnaya and Adonis Thomas.

Browns president Mike Holmgren took in some of practice during eleven on eleven drills in the middle of practice this morning. The offense struggled as a whole especially the wide receivers who had numerous dropped passes. Brandon Weeden made some nice throws but the receivers did not do a good job of catching them.

This could be an important week for backup quarterback Colt McCoy. As you recall, reports came out following last April's draft that the Packers could be a possible destination for McCoy once Weeden was drafted. While McCoy had a nice showing in last Friday nights win in Detroit, today was a different story. McCoy really struggled in both seven on seven and eleven on eleven drills. His passes were missing their intended targets, the majority of them coming up short. Then right before practice came to a close, McCoy threw his worst pass of the day which resulted in a endzone interception by linebacker LJ Fort. It was a rough day for number 12.

To sum the day up Browns fans, there is a lot of things to be concerned about as we draw closer to preseason game number two on Thursday night. Hopefully that changes with the final practice before the Packers game tomorrow morning at 8:45AM here in Berea. If that doesn't happen, head coach Pat Shurmur will have much more things to worry about than just injuries.
