BEREA, Ohio - The Cleveland Browns have selected versatile Nevada linebacker James-Michael Johnson with their second selection in the fourth round of the NFL draft.
The 6-foot-1, 241-pound Johnson was a four-year starter in college, playing the past two seasons in the middle. He recorded 100 tackles last season, finished his career with 299 stops (170 solos) and started 43 straight games.
Johnson is one of the fastest linebackers in the draft. He'll give the Browns some depth and can play special teams. Johnson says he embraces covering kicks and punts, but hopes to win a starting job.
Johnson made one of his pre-draft visits to the Browns, who signed linebacker D'Qwell Jackson to a contract extension during the offseason.
