Browns rookie Trent Richardson tentatively scheduled to have surgery Thursday

CLEVELAND - Cleveland Browns fans hoping to see number three overall pick Trent Richardson play in his first NFL game this Friday night in Detroit against the Lions will have to wait a little bit longer.

According to ESPN NFL beat reporter Chris Mortensen, Richardson is tentatively scheduled to have minor knee surgery on Thursday in Pensacola, Florida. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery.

Richardson will have a "hang nail particle" removed in his left knee. It's causing the irritation in the knee that has kept him out of practice since Monday.

This is the second time this year that the Browns rookie running back will have surgery. Back in February, Richardson had arthroscopic surgery for a torn meniscus in the left knee suffered during the BCS national championship game. The good news is injury is not related to the torn meniscus.

In a statement released by the Browns, head coach Pat Shurmur said, "Trent Richardson is traveling to Pensacola, Fla., where he will have his left knee further evaluated by Dr. James Andrews tomorrow."
