4:30 p.m.--Some final thoughts from today's scrimmage...
The offense still has a ways to go before the start of the season. The Browns had the worst offense in the league last season, and improving on that has been the key point of emphasis during the summer.
Seneca Wallace and Josh Cribbs have developed tremendous chemistry during training camp, and the coaches seem committed to using the two of them on the field at the same time. Cribbs is clearly Wallace's favorite target at wide receiver.
"Whenever a play starts to break down, I start to look his way, because I know that he's on the same page as me," Wallace said.
Both of them are athletic players who are a threat to run and pass the ball, which can create a mismatch for defenses.
"It's like you got two quarterbacks at heart, just out there, balling out," Cribbs said about lining up next to Wallace.
Colt McCoy did not have a great day under center and the offense was unable to score any points with him taking snaps. He threw two inceptions (although one came on a heave to the endzone at the end of the first half), and one was returned for a touchdown.
"Obviously you don't want to throw a pick for a touchdown, but when you're going against the best, you've got to be at your best," McCoy said. "I'd love to have that throw back, but you know what, those things happen, you got to move on. It's how you respond to those that make you the player that you are."
First-round pick Joe Haden is developing nicely. He was matched up against Josh Cribbs for most of the day, and limited Cribbs success through the air. Late in the game, Haden broke up a pass intended for Cribbs in the corner of the endzone.
"He's stepped his game up tremendously, and I think he'll be ready by the first game," Cribbs said.
As of now, Haden is still projected as a nickel back, or backup corner, but if he continues to make progress then he might see more playing time once the season starts. Fans also might see Haden get some action on the special teams side, as he returned kicks today for the Brown team.
3:20 p.m.--That's all, folks. The Brown team is victorious, winning 14-6. The White team had one more chance to score, as they had a coin flip instead of attempting an onside kick. The White team won the toss, and ran a few more plays before time expired.
3:15 p.m.--Seneca Wallace led the White team down the field, before settling for a 35-yard Phil Dawson field goal. That was probably the most efficient offensive series of the game, as Wallace connected with tight end Evan Moore on a couple of pass plays for nice gains.
One of the enjoyable matchups to watch on that series was Josh Cribbs going up against Joe Haden. Wallace looked for Cribb in the endzone on one pass, but Haden deflected the ball.
3:00 p.m.--There was finally some excitement in the scrimmage. Offensive guard Scott Kooistra and linebacker Marcus Benard got into a shoving match after a play, which turned into a fist fight. The fight went on for a while before some linemen finally stepped in and broke it up.
Both players were ejected from the game, as the referee said, "They will both watch the rest of the scrimmage from the bench."
2:46 p.m.--The Brown team has scored the first offensive touchdown of the day, as Jake Delhomme found Ben Watson in the back of the endzone for a five-yard score. The Brown team leads 14-3.
2:21 p.m.--The second half has started, and the common theme throughout the game has been a number of penalties. Both sides have been flagged several times, on everything from personal fouls, holding, facemask and pass interference calls.
Most teams are not sharp at this point of the season, but the sloppy play of this scrimmage won't make Eric Mangini a very happy man.
1:58 p.m.--The first half is in the books, and it was rough for Colt McCoy. He did not have success moving the ball, and appeared flustered under center. He threw two interceptions, including one on a Hail Mary pass at the end of the half.
Neither offense had much success overall, as the defense actually has more points than either offense. However, it is worth mentioning that it is tough to truly judge because of no tackling.
1:50 p.m.--The most exciting play of the day came at the expense of Colt McCoy. He was under pressure and heaved up a pass, which was picked off by Brandon McDonald, who then took it in for a touchdown. McDonald had to weave in and out of traffic before scoring with a flip into the endzone.
The return was particularly impressive because there's no tackling in the scrimmage, so McDonald had to avoid even getting touched.
1:37 p.m.--Another three-and-out in Colt's second series. The Browns continue to work in Wildcat, using Cribbs at quarterback. The coaches have stressed that they want to get the ball in Cribbs hands as many ways as possible,
