TOLEDO, Ohio - Driven, determined and a go-to guy. That's how those who knew him best at Saint John's Jesuit High School in Toledo remember 1986 graduate Rob Chudzinski.
Chudzinski played tight end and linebacker on the Titans football team. He also played basketball and ran track. Chudzinski was a well rounded student who was a member of the National Honor Society, student council and a Christian volunteer helping others in his community.
Chudzinski grew up in Fremont a big Browns fan. He lived in Perrysburg in high school.
Friday at his high school in Toledo, there was great energy in the halls and cafeteria, excitement and pride over his hiring as the head coach of the Cleveland Browns.
Some students who didn't know he graduated from their school until now wore Browns shirts over their dress shirts and ties Friday.
Teachers were busy placing Browns posters in the cafeteria while others got out the yearbooks from 1985 and 1986 looking up pictures of Chudzinski.
Chudzinski keeps in touch with his high school coaches, visiting the school last August.
"That's the ultimate thing you can do in this sport become a head coach in the league. I'm glad to see he got a shot and it's certainly well deserved," said Doug Pearson, the head football coach at Saint John's High School.
Pearson was a 22-year-old assistant coach at the school in 1986 when Chudzinski was a 17-year-old senior.
