BEREA, Ohio - After getting their roster down to the mandatory 53 players on Friday night, the Cleveland Browns were awarded two defensive players via waivers on Saturday.
The Browns added linebacker Tank Carder who was released by the Buffalo Bills and defensive lineman Ishmaa’ily Kitchen who was let go by the Baltimore Ravens.
Carder will add some depth at linebacker with Chris Gocong out for the season and Scott Fujita suspended for the first three games of the season. Carder was the Bills fifth round selection in last April's NFL draft.
Kitchen was signed asan undrafted free agent by the Ravens back in May and played his collegiate ball locally at Kent State.
To make room on the 53 man roster, the Browns released defensive linemen Brian Sanford and Scott Paxson.
The Browns also added eight players to their practice squad. They are linebacker Solomon Elimimian, defensive lineman Ronnie Cameron, wide receiver Josh Cooper, linebacker Benjamin Jacobs, fullback Brad Smelley and offensive linemen Garth Gerhart, Jarrod Shaw and Jeff Shugarts. Elimimian was waived by the Minnesota Vikings back on August 25, 2012. The rest of the players were waived by the Browns on Friday.
