Browns force eight turnovers in 20-14 win over Steelers

CLEVELAND,OH - The Browns and Steelers are meeting for the first time this year under clear and cold conditions at Cleveland Browns Stadium.

Browns are very healthy heading into this game today. Joe Haden and Buster Skrine will both play and that is a good sign for the Browns defense.

Browns opening drive is interruputed when Brett Kiesel tipped Brandon Weedens pass and was returned 53 yards for a score Lawrence Timmons.

Browns defense comes alive when Ahtyba Rubin strips Rashad Mendenhall of the football, it is recovered by Usama Young. Browns drive stalls after 7 plays and 33 yards, Phil Dawson kicks a 28 yard field goal.

Browns defense looks tough today against the Steelers. Both teams scored off turnovers in the first quarter but the Steelers have the lead early.

2nd Quarter

Browns Juqua Parker causes the second Steelers fumble of the first half. Three plays later Brandon Weeden connects with Jordan Cameron on a 5 yard score.

Browns would add to the lead in the second quarter on a 32 yard field goal by Phil Dawson, his second of the game. Browns defense allowed just 38 yards of offense to the Steelers in the first quarter.

The Browns would get the ball back with 3:12 left in the second quarter. Third fumble of the day for Pittsburgh's running backs. T.J. Ward recovered for the Browns.

The Browns went three and out and Pittsburgh drove to the Browns 26 yard line and on 3rd and 10 Sheldon Brown gets called for a pass interference penalty covering Plaxico Burris. First and goal Steelers from the one yard line with seven seconds to play. Chris Rainey scores on the next play when the Browns looked to have him stopped on initial contact but slipped away for the score.

The Browns finally find the end zone on the ground against the leagues number one defense. Trent Richardson ran 15 yards for the go ahead score.

Browns come up with turnover number five with 12:06 left to play here, Joe Haden with the pass breakup and Billy Winn gets the interceptions. Big turnover for the Browns defense.

 

FINAL BROWNS 20 STEELERS 14

The Browns forced eight Pittsburgh turnovers today in a dominating performance by the defense in a 20-14 win. The win for the Browns over the Steelers was their first since December of 2009. The Browns improved to 2-3 in the AFC North and 3-8 overall.

The win for the Browns was just the second over their rivals in the last 18 games, but it comes at a price as Brandon Weeden left the game late in the fourth quarter with a head injury and was replaced by Colt McCoy who finished the game at quarterback. Weeden did not talk to the press after the game and was evaluated at the stadium and will undergo further testing if needed on Monday.

Browns outgoing President Mike Holmgren announced after todays game that this would be his last game as Browns President and is expected to hold a press conference tomorrow in Berea.
