CLEVELAND - Fun day to blog with so many things going on. Derek Anderson was released. Did you hear what he said about Browns fans? The team keeps making moves. The Cavs get a well deserved day off.
First, we start with Derek Anderson. It was a no-brainer to release him. DA was on track to pull in more than 9 million dollars this season. So it's no surprise he was released when the team traded for Seneca Wallace. Did you read Jeff Schudel's story in the News-Herald ?
This was a great get by Jeff, who had a fun relationship with Derek whenever he would ask him questions. For all the ribbing Jeff took from Derek it paid off with this interview.
Derek Anderson will land with another team. It will be crazy if he plays in Cleveland against the Browns at home next season. Can you say overtime for the Cleveland police?
I will say this about cheering for a player to get injured, it's about as dumb as it gets. I can understand why Derek is still upset about it. But, throwing all Browns fans under the bus is another thing. Sometimes you need to be careful when you make a wish.
Seneca Wallace is scheduled for a physical in Berea today. Do you really think after being a back-up he is not going to put up a fight for the starters spot?
He knows Mike Holmgren's system, even in limited real game time. He completes 60 percent of his passes. You have to wonder what is Brady Quinn's fate. We will find out soon.
At 11 last night, I talked about how the Cavs had a much needed day off. I said trainer Max Benton has seen more patients than Dr. Oz of late. It was an attempt to recognize and give credit to a first class guy on the Cavs staff. What I didn't realize is he should be called an "athletic trainer," and not just a "trainer." Dorian Pittman brought that to my attention last night after the newscast. We learn something new every day.
The MAC tourney kicks off today with the women. It wasn't that long ago the Saturday night championship game at Gund Arena was the most exciting basketball the old blue seats could see all year. Another reason to be thankful for LeBron. Still the college game brings passion and pride the NBA can't touch. It's why I love March Madness. It only takes 5 guys to make a miracle. When you still think Mouse McFadden and CSU got robbed against Navy 24 years later you have to say, "I love this game."
