BEREA, Ohio - The NFL Draft begins one week from Thursday night.
Browns CEO Joe Banner and team president Michael Lombardi sat down with the media for 30 minutes to answer questions, and pick the brains of the Browns war room.
Banner was asked if the Browns will trade the sixth overall pick on Thursday night.
"Highly likely that a trade will happen while we are on the clock, then before or after the pick,” the new CEO said.
Lombardi said the draft is very deep on the defensive side of the football, especially edge rush defensive ends, which is a need for the team. Banner said the Browns have rated between 18 and 20 players as first-round picks.
After the Browns ended a three-day minicamp on Thursday head coach Rob Chudzinski said "our draft board is set.” He said nothing that he saw the past three days made him think any differently about changing positions of need.
The new head coach called the minicamp "more of a learning camp then an evaluation camp."
Banner also said he has a pretty good idea which teams below the Browns might be interested in trading up to acquire the sixth overall pick.
Banner and Lombardi were short with their answers, especially when it came to pre-draft workouts, like West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith. They avoided all questions in general.
The two men also chose not to answer any questions about the FBI raid of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam’s Pilot Flying J headquarters, only to say "they will not affect the Browns organization in any way.”
Whatever the Browns chose to do next week, one thing is certain, they remain open to any scenario that may develop Thursday night.
