CHICAGO - The Big Ten is discussing beefing up its nonconference football schedules.

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says the Big Ten has made an agreement to stop scheduling games against Football Championship Subdivision teams in the future. Alvarez made his comments on WIBA, a radio station in Madison, Wisc.

Big Ten athletic directors and coaches met Monday to discuss football-related topics. Big Ten spokesman Scott Chipman says there will be more meetings as part of a process to make a proposal for the Council of Presidents/Chancellors to review in June.

The Big Ten is preparing for its new-look football schedules -- with nine or 10 conference games -- after Maryland and Rutgers join in 2014. Big Ten schools will have three, or two, nonconference games to schedule each year.
