AKRON, Ohio - It's a new season for the University of Akron Zips men's soccer team. The 2013 team has a new coach, but much remains the same.
Jared Embick takes over this year after serving as the Zips associate head coach. In 2010, Embick was named the assistant coach of the year, when he helped then-head coach Caleb Porter lead the team to the national championship.
Akron is ranked No. 8 in the NCAA preseason coaches’ poll. In addition, senior forward Reinaldo Brenes was named to the Hermann Trophy Watch List. The Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer.
In their first exhibition game this season, the Zips enjoyed a crowd of 1,826 in the stands and defeated Marshall 4-1.
