KENT, Ohio - The Akron Zips rallied from a ten point halftime deficit to beat rival Kent State 71-67 at the MAC Center on Saturday.
Center Zeke Marshall lead the Zips with 17 points and added eleven rebounds. Guard Alex Abreu didn't make his first field goal until late in the game, but his two late three pointers helped key Akron come from behind victory. Abreu finished with seven points on the afternoon.
Chris Evans lead the Flashes with 19 points. Darren Goodson had 14 points and Kris Brewer added 13.
Kent State took a 36-26 halftime lead with a 16-2 run to end the first half.
Akron has now won the last five meetings between the MAC conference rivals. The two teams meet again at Rhodes arena in March to end the regular season.
The Zips (13-4, 4-0 MAC) are on a nine game win streak. The Flashes (11-7, 2-2 MAC) had their two game win streak snapped.
