Akron (2-6, 1-3 Mid-American) led 24-7 midway through the fourth quarter but Miami (0-7, 0-3) made it a one-possession game after a 44-yard touchdown pass from Austin Boucher to Dawan Scott and a 52-yard field goal from Kaleb Patterson.
