CLEVELAND - Despite playing for the team with the third-worst record in the NBA, Cleveland Cavaliers point guard Kyrie Irving has been selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star team on Thursday night as a reserve.
Irving leads all NBA point guards in scoring at 23.7 points per game and has scored 40 points or more twice this season. The most recent was his 40 point performance on Tuesday night against the Boston Celtics.
This will be the first all-star game appearance for the reigning NBA rookie of the year.
The 2013 NBA All-Star game is on Feb. 17 at the Toyota Center in Houston.
