CLEVELAND - After injuries and personal problems plagued his 2011 season, the Indians are looking for a bounce back season from Shin-Soo Choo in 2012.
The 29-year-old was arrested for DUI in May of 2011. Then, in late June, he was hit by a pitch that broke his thumb. Choo returned to the lineup in August but suffered a rib injury shortly thereafter that eventually sent him to the DL for good in mid-September.
Those setbacks played a part in below average numbers last season. Choo hit .259 with 8 HR and 36 RBI in only 313 at-bats.
In seven seasons as a member of the Mariners and Indians, Choo has a .291 average, 67 HR and 306 RBI.
The South Korean outfielder was a 20-20 guy in home runs and stolen bases in both 2009 and 2010, so the Indians will look for pop and speed from him out of the three hole in the lineup.
Choo was traded to the Indians from Seattle for Ben Broussard in July of 2006.
