COLUMBUS, Ohio - Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner began a rehab assignment Wednesday with the teams triple a affiliate the Columbus Clippers.

Hafner served as the Clippers designated hitter against the Norfolk Tides. Hafner went one for three with a first inning single in the Clippers 3-1 loss.

Hafner has been on the disabled list since late May following knee surgery. The tribe hopes to get Hafner back as soon as this weekend in Baltimore or next week when they open up their final homestand before the all star break.
