CLEVELAND - Cleveland has won him back. They've claimed Jim Thome off waivers and the Twins, plus Thome, have agreed to a deal.
The Cleveland Indians confirmed the deal is done and Thome will be back in a Tribe uniform Friday night. It also means the Indians will trade a player to be named later.
The Tribe was in need of a DH since Travis Hafner is out with a foot injury.
The Chicago White Sox had been pursuing Thome, but instead were awarded the waiver claim on Twins Jason Kubel.
Thome is no stranger to Cleveland. He spent 12 seasons with the Tribe beginning in 1991, before going to the Phillies. He is the Indians all-time homerun leader with 334.
