The Indians announced that pitcher Scott Kazmir will miss his first start of the season on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays.
He had a MRI and examination in Cleveland revealed a right rib cage strain for the left handed pitcher. He will be placed on the 15-day disabled list backdated to April 2nd. The injury, which is not believed to be serious, will force Scott to miss 2-3 starts.
Indians pitching coach Mickey Calloway told reporters that newcomer Trevor Bauer will replace Kazmir in the rotation. It will be his first start in an Indians uniform. The Indians picked him up in a trade with Matt Albers and Bryan Shaw in the offseason with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
