The Indians today announced they have inked free agent infiedler Cristian Guzman to a Minor League contract with an invitation to Major League spring training camp.

Guzman, who will turn 34 on March 21, has compiled a .271 (1459-5382) batting average with 238 doubles, 62 home runs, 467 RBI and 125 stolen bases in 1406 games over his 12-year Major League career for the Minnesota Twins (1999-2004), Washington Nationals (2005-2010) and Texas Rangers (2010).

His 89 career triples currently rank 5th among active players. A two-time All-Star (2001 & 2008), Guzman was part of a Twins infield that helped claim 3 consecutive A.L. Central Division titles from 2002-04 and has played in 18 career postseason games, all with Minnesota. Prior to seeing action at second base (72 games) and right field (8 games) in 2010, his most recent professional season, Guzman had appeared exclusively at shortstop at the Major League level, compiling a .971 fielding pct. as an infielder.
