KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Cleveland Indians recalled right-hander Corey Kluber from Triple-A Columbus on Wednesday and he will make his first major league start Thursday night against the Kansas City Royals.
The Indians will designate pitcher Derek Lowe for assignment to clear room on the 25 man roster for Kluber.
Kluber was 11-7 with a 3.59 ERA with 128 strikeouts and 49 walks in 125 1-3 innings over 21 starts with Columbus. He went 4-0 with a 2.91 ERA in his last five International League starts.
Kluber, who was acquired from the San Diego Padres in a three-team trade in July 2010, was a September callup last year, and had an 8.31 ERA in three relief appearances with the Indians.
