CLEVELAND - Friday marks 20 years since three Cleveland Indians players were involved in a boat crash, killing two of them.
The incident happened March 22, 1993, on Little Lake Nellie in Clermont, Florida, while the team was in spring training in Winter Haven.
Tim Crews, Steve Olin and Bob Ojeda – all pitchers for the team – were fishing at twilight when their boat slammed into an unlit dock. Crews, 31, was killed instantly. Olin, 27, died a day after the crash. Ojeda was conscious after the incident and kept asking about his buddies.

Crews was a free agent pitcher who landed in Cleveland as a strong-throwing setup man. The 1993 season was his first spring with Cleveland.
Olin was expected to be the team’s future closer. He was a submarining right-hander who was a fan favorite.
On opening day that year at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, the team wore a patch on their jersey sleeves to remember their teammates killed in that crash.
