DETROIT - An IndyCar driver complimented me on my ride last week.

“That’s a sweet whip,” Arie Luyendyk Jr. said with a head nod in the direction of my 2012 red Ford Fiesta.

By the way Arie, her name is Lucy and she knows she’s hot.

Our exchange happened shortly after Luyendyk took me for a leisurely 110 mph spin around the 2012 Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix race track. We were in a Chevy Camaro ZL1.

Our Camaro, too, was red. I think her name was Ethel.

As I bounced around shotgun looking anything but cool, Luyendyk was just that.

“Right now we’re doing about 110 in the Camaro. The IndyCars do about 180,” he noted casually as we flew down a straightaway.

It was with this same nonchalant demeanor that Luyendyk narrated the 2.1 mile track, explaining the blind corners, hard brake zones, changes in pavement and areas where it’s difficult to pass.

“You want to watch out for this curb because it could send you into the wall, so we want to stay away from that," he said almost as an after thought.

Yup, I agree.

So what does the 30-year-old Bachelorette contestant think of the Belle Isle track? (That's right girls, he's one of the men vying for Emily Maynard's heart on Monday nights at 8 p.m. EST on NewsChannel5).

“The track is really good because it offers a lot of different things, it’s really narrow, bumpy. So it’s challenging but it has a couple really good passing zones. All in all, it’s a good track.” Luyendyk said, seeming ready to race.

But don’t take my word for it! Ride along with Luyendyk and get his play-by-play in the video player above.

Oh and Arie, Lucy says she can be washed, gassed up and ready for a victory lap whenever you need her.
