CLEVELAND - Four professionals from Light Salon and Spa in Avon, volunteered their time Wednesday to help some special ladies feel better about themselves.
Clients from the Women's Center of Greater Cleveland were treated to a day of shopping and beauty, mini-manicures and makeup application tips.
The Women's Center operates a non-profit outpatient drug and alcohol treatment facility that offers comprehensive outpatient alcohol and other drug treatment services. The agency gives the women an opportunity to take control of their lives, and improve their situation emotionally and economically.
Research shows up to 90 percent of women who abuse drugs report a history of physical and sexual abuse or witnessing violence. Experts indicate that female drug abusers typically have low self-esteem and may feel powerless.
The day of pampering encourages these women to feel good about themselves again and hopefully lead them on the road to long-term sobriety and recovery.
"The Women's Center also received more than 3,000 pieces of new and gently used clothing from a store that was closing, as well as a nice shipment of new clothing from Coldwater Creek," said Kara Russo, development specialist with the center.
Each lady was allowed to choose some clothing in addition to her makeover and before and after photo sessions. At the end of the pampering session, each client received a goody bag filled with donated beauty products ranging from organic body cream to whitening toothpaste.
If you know someone who may need help with addiction, the center's number is 216-651-1450 or you can visit their Web site for more info www.womensctr.org .
