MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - Video of Middletown Police Officer Jason Deaton pulling over 45-year-old Eric German Wednesday afternoon shows it all. [WEB EXTRA: Click the video player to watch the video.]

German was believed to have hit a car and fled the scene minutes before Deaton caught up to him.

At first the traffic stop seems routine, but that quickly changed.

Police said German became irritated about being pulled over. Part of the reason for that irritation was because German is a private security officer and showed Deaton his badge.

As German began to struggle, Deaton shocked him with a Taser gun, but the taser did not work properly. That's when the fists began flying.

"He's got a black eye and there's some swelling on the side of his face. He got punched pretty hard. When I was at the hospital they hadn't told him yet what the extent of his injuries were," said Lt. Walter Reev with the Middletown Police Department.

When backup did arrive, German was shocked by a second officer and taken into custody.

He now faces several charges including assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, obstructing official business, failure to drive in marked lanes and fleeing the scene of an accident.

He was arraigned Thursday morning and given a $500,000 cash bond. He also asked for a public attorney.

Officer Deaton was taken to Atrium Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries. His condition has not been released.
