COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio's Human Trafficking Task Force has presented Gov. John Kasich with 26 ideas to better coordinate efforts to stop the illegal trade.
The list includes ways to identify and rescue human trafficking victims, create a coordinated law enforcement system to investigate such crimes and provide services and treatment to victims.
Also included in the report are recommendations intended to compliment House Bill 262, which is expected to be signed by Kasich Wednesday afternoon. House Bill 262 would increase penalties for human trafficking, provide protection for victims and support new programs to raise awareness of the problem. It would also train people how to recognize signs of human trafficking.
The Ohio Human Trafficking Task Force was created by Kasich in March. It's led by members of his office and includes directors from 10 state agencies and one state board. Much of the information gathered by the task force comes from stakeholder groups and people involved in the fight to end human trafficking.
