COLUMBUS, Ohio - A new survey finds that about 3 percent of Ohio adults are either problem gamblers or at risk of gambling problems as casinos open around the state.
The phone poll released Monday will be used as a baseline to target prevention and treatment dollars from casino revenues in coming years.
Six percent of Ohioans who gamble say their primary venue now is casinos. The lottery is the preferred game for 72 percent of Ohioans who wager. About 8 percent of those responding saw casinos as riskier for addiction than the lottery.
The poll of 3,600 residents was conducted from February through July and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.75 percent.
