YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A couple of hundred people were inside the Covelli Center in Youngstown Wednesday night for a community meeting about hydro-fracking.
The state imposed a moratorium on drilling within 5 miles of the well after a 4 .0 earthquake on New Year's Eve. It was the 11th quake within two miles of the well since March.
"I can go back 62 years, never been an earthquake," said State Rep. Bob Hagan, who organized the meeting.
Hagan said it is not just about the earthquakes, but about the chemicals that he said are being pumped into the earth.
"I absolutely believe these chemicals are dangerous," Hagan said.
State natural resources officials said dozens of similar injection wells have operated around the state without problems.
Hagan wants a moratorium in place until 2015 on drilling until more research can be done.
