COLUMBUS, Ohio - Gov. John Kasich is ready to announce his appointment to replace retiring Ohio Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Lundberg Stratton.
The Republican governor plans a Thursday announcement.
Lundberg Stratton is one of six Republicans on the seven-member court. She is vacating the seat two years before her term expires.
Thirteen judges and lawyers are vying for the job. Applicants include three common pleas judges -- Craig Baldwin of Licking County, Pat DeWine of Hamilton County and Victor Haddad of Clermont County.
Five appellate judges also applied, including Ohio State Bar Association president Patrick Fischer, of the 1st District Court of Appeals in Hamilton County. A municipal court judge and four private practice lawyers round out the list.
Kasich's pick will be among three new justices joining the court next year.
