CLEVELAND - NewsChannel 5 has received a copy of the Franklin County Coroner’s Office release form that shows Cleveland kidnapper Ariel Castro’s body was released to his son Anthony Castro on Sept. 4.
The release form states that Ariel Castro’s date of death was Sept. 3 and his body was released to his son Anthony Castro the following day.
According to the form, Anthony Castro requested his father's body be sent to Rodman-Snyder (Ohio Cremation & Memorial Society) in Columbus.
The 53-year-old Castro was found hanging in his cell on Sept. 4 at the state prison in Orient, said JoEllen Smith, a spokeswoman for the corrections system. Prison medical staff performed CPR before Castro was taken to a hospital. He was pronounced dead that evening.
The 53-year-old Castro was serving a sentence of life without parole plus 1,000 years.
