ATHENS, Ohio - Authorities say arson is to blame for a weekend house fire that cut short an annual street party near the Ohio University campus in southeast Ohio.
The state fire marshal's office says someone set fire to a house basement Saturday night in Athens. It abruptly ended the nearby street party, which often stretches into the early morning hours.
Media outlets reported police with extra protective gear were forced to disperse the crowd, and Athens Mayor Paul Wiehl declared a riot.
The fire caused moderate damage to the basement and spread to several units in the house. No injuries were reported.
Authorities are offering up to $5,000 to anyone with information on who caused the fire.
