WASHINGTON COURT HOUSE, Ohio - A township trustee says someone removed about 180 flags from veterans' graves in a southwest Ohio community and broke or damaged some of the headstones.
Wayne Township trustee Jim Cooper tells WBNS-TV in Columbus that a maintenance worker discovered the vandalism on Friday. The Fayette County Sheriff's Office is investigating what happened.
Cooper says he and his wife tried to replace some of the flags over the long weekend. He says it may be hard to locate and notify the families of some of the veterans whose sites were affected.
The TV station says the damaged headstones will be fixed.
