DECATUR, Ohio - Authorities say a 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after being accidentally shot in the head.
Brown County Sheriff Dwayne Wenninger said it happened Monday afternoon in the southern Ohio village of Decatur, southeast of Cincinnati.
Wenninger said Sebastian Schwartz got his father's gun from the bedroom and was playing with it when a younger sister tried to take it away from him. That's when it discharged, hitting him in the head.
The boy was flown to a Cincinnati hospital, where he was in critical condition following a four-hour surgery Monday night.
Wenninger said results of the investigation will be turned over to prosecutors, who will decide if the boy's parents should face charges.
