CLEVELAND - The sun released a huge solar flare on July 12 and the geomagnetic storm made its way to Earth this weekend.
The burst of energy that was emitted from the sun was considered low-level, so it wasn’t a big threat to the Earth’s technology. However, the storm still put on quite a show.
Monday morning, NASA released time lapse video of the flare. You can see it in the video player.
Thursday’s solar flare was the second in a week. The sun’s 11-year solar cycle could peak in 2013 or 2014. That means we’re seeing increased solar activity now.
