VATICAN CITY - Pope Benedict the XVI is celebrating the 60th anniversary of his ordination into the priesthood Wednesday and he marked the occasion by going on Twitter.

Check out the video above to see Pope Benedict XVI sending out the tweet on his iPad Tuesday night.

The Pope tweeted : "Dear Friends, I just launched News.va. Praised be our Lord Jesus Christ! With my prayers and blessings, Benedictus XVI".

The Pope used that tweet to announce the launch of a new Vatican news website. The top story talks about his ordination. The tweet attracted more than 20,000 followers to join the Vatican News Twitter page.

Thaddeus Jones, project coordinator and an official with the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, said the Pope was impressed with the technology.

"He was clearly in awe at the new technology," Jones said. "It's a lighter moment but also an important one, it marks a new way of communicating."

The Vatican hopes the new website will provide news in a user-friendly setting to the outside world.
