TAMPA, Fla. - More than 500 Ohioans are making the trip to Tampa to join delegations from across the country to nominate Governor Mitt Romney as the Republican presidential candidate at the Republican National Convention.
This year’s group of delegates, alternate delegates, friends of delegates and guests will surpass the Ohio contingency in 2008, which had a group of approximately 300 at the RNC.
"My first convention was in 1964 and I haven't missed one since. But of the large Ohio group traveling with us this year we have seasoned veterans as well as first timers,” said Ohio Republican Party Chairman Bob Bennett in a press release.
For those who cannot make it to the convention in person, the RNC is planning to broadcast the entire convention on their YouTube channel —dubbing this year’s event as a “convention without walls.”
The RNC will host 2,286 delegates and 2,125 alternate delegates from all 50 states, the District of Columbia and five U.S. territories and will bring in more than 50,000 guests to the Tampa Bay area.
NewsChannel 5's John Kosich will be in Tampa beginning on Sunday Aug. 26 bringing you the latest news from the Republican National Convention. You can follow him on Twiiter @KosichJohn .
