CLEVELAND - Former Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Bridget McCafferty is now serving time in a federal prison following her sentencing last month on corruption charges.
A federal prison official at the Federal Correctional Facility at Alderson, W.Va. confirmed Wednesday that McCafferty has begun a 14-month sentence for lying to FBI agents, who were spearheading the largest corruption probe in Cuyahoga County history.
McCafferty was convicted in March of lying to federal agents about whether she ever had conversations with former county commissioner Jimmy Dimora or former county auditor Frank Russo about cases in her courtroom.
The federal agents were trying to determine whether McCafferty was influenced in any way by either Dimora or Russo.
McCafferty self-reported to prison officials within hours of a federal appeals court ruling that denied her request to remain free while her case was being appealed.
