CLEVELAND - A former Cuyahoga County official pleaded guilty Tuesday morning in Federal Court on a bribery charge in the ongoing federal corruption probe in Cuyahoga County.
Daniel Weaver, 44, was employed as the Director of Information Services for the county.
Weaver was indicted on one count of conspiracy to commit bribery on July 30. He entered a guilty plea to that one count on Tuesday.
Federal prosecutors said Weaver gave a public official matching the description of Cuyahoga County Auditor Frank Russo gifts and cash with the expectation that Russo would be receptive to Weaver's ideas on specific projects.
Russo has not been charged with a crime and was not mentioned by name in the indictment.
Weaver is free on a $50,000 bond. For his cooperation in the case, he could be sentenced to as little as probation, even though that count carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in prison.
No date has been set yet for Weaver's sentencing.
