AKRON, Ohio - Jimmy Dimora looks to be a very different man from his last court appearance in March where he was convicted of corruption charges.
On Monday morning, the former Cuyahoga County commissioner was using a walker and wearing a frown on his face, appearing to struggle each time he sat down and stood up for the proceedings.
It's obvious Dimora has lost some weight, but how much isn't clear because of the baggy orange jumpsuit he's wearing.
During the morning and early afternoon proceedings, Dimora seemed calm and curious, listening attentively. He smiled only twice: once during a conversation he had with his attorney, the other when he surveyed court, connecting with someone in the back of the courtroom and nodding.
Dimora's immediate family members are all sitting together. Dimora is expected to take the stand in his own defense Monday afternoon. His sons, Anthony and Joe, his daughter, Lisa, a former mayor of Bedford and his neighbor, John Teron, will all be asking the judge to consider a lesser sentence.
Despite a slow and tedious start to the sentencing hearing, with the defense team and prosecutors debating over how much Dimora took in bribes, Akron Federal Judge Sara Lioi is still expected to make a ruling Monday afternoon.
Dimora is facing up to 22 years in prison on 32 corruption charges.
