AKRON, Ohio - Those in the courtroom during Jimmy Dimora’s corruption sentencing said it was a very emotional state when the judge read aloud the former county commissioner’s fate.

As the judge read the 336-month (28-year) sentence, NewsChannel5 Investigator Sarah Buduson said Dimora’s son, Anthony, began shaking his head. And then Dimora's wife, Lori, appeared to start crying.

Dimora then looked like he was going to stand up, Buduson reported, but the judge had not yet adjourned the hearing. At the same time, a U.S. Marshal noticed his movement and reached for her gun. Dimora quickly sat back down.

Once the hearing was over, Dimora stood up and turned around to his nine family members in the courtroom.

“I’ll see you guys later, I don’t know when,” said Dimora.

“We love you, Jim. We love you, Jim,” they said back to him.

Then, as Dimora started walking out of the room, he looked at the prosecutors and said, “Good story. I hope you guys are happy.”

Buduson said reporters were seated in the back of the courtroom at the Akron federal courthouse, so it was difficult to get a good view of Dimora during the hearing.

But Buduson said it was clear Dimora had lost some weight since his trial. How much, though, wasn’t clear because he was wearing a relatively loose prison jumpsuit.

Dimora will be headed to a federal prison in Butner, North Carolina, at the request of his attorneys. They asked he be moved there from Youngstown because the facility offers medical treatment options.
