Mitt Romney focuses on the economy in Avon Lake, asks people to donate to Hurricane Sandy victims

AVON LAKE, Ohio - With just eight days to go until Election Day, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told thousands of supporters that he would make changes immediately in Washington, if elected.

One of those changes would be to help businesses grow with lower taxes.

The economy was the main topic of Romney's speech, including his five-point economic plan of using all forms of energy, trade, training for workers and students, a balanced budget and championing small business.

Romney also asked the crowd to remember those Americans in the path of Hurricane Sandy.

"I'd like to ask those of you who are here today to make a donation to the Red Cross or another agency to help those in harms way," Romney said.

Romney also told the crowd his campaign offices would be taking donations to help those affected by Sandy.

Romney was scheduled to be in Ohio on Tuesday for events, but the campaign said those events have been canceled because of the storm.

Romney shook hands and spoke to supporters after his speech. He also held a baby, Emily Miller.

"He lifted her up and the crowd was cheering, it was a good moment," said her mother Autumn Miller.

The Miller's 9-year-old daughter was also there to see the historic event. She shook Romney's hand.

"I think it's pretty cool to see the person that I think is going to be president," said Austoria Miller.
