Undecided voters start making up their minds

ELYRIA, Ohio - Thursday night was President Barack Obama's turn to try to sway undecided voters his way in this year's election. However, he didn't get the nod from Tim and Rebecca Oldani of Elyria.

Until Thursday, the Oldanis were among what some polls show are as many as 6 percent of American voters who are undecided about the presidential election. However, following Obama's speech, the couple told NewsChannel5 they will go with Romney.

"Although I really don't want to vote for either party,  I really feel like at this point it's more of a defensive vote for me," Tim Oldani said. "I don't think I want to give four more years to President Obama."

NewsChannel5 political analyst Tom Sutton, a political science professor at Baldwin Wallace University, predicts the undecided vote could end up evenly split. However he said the election will not be decided solely on the undecided vote, but rather on how well the two parties get their supporters out to the polls.

"Both conventions were highly effective in getting their base excited," he said.

Sutton said possibly two-thirds of the undecided voters will wait for the debates before making their decision.  But for Rebecca Oldani, the decision is already clear.

"I think the most disheartening thing is the lack of jobs and I know that's affecting so many millions of Americans," she said.
