In the late 1970s and early 1980s, our Don Webster would head out to various downtown locations to do weather tosses for our 11 p.m. broadcast here at WEWS.
Don would find someone to talk to about the weather of the day and make an observation about what was on the weather horizon while wearing some very loud sport coat. Through the magic of TV, in the two-minute commercial break, Don was back in the studio
Our video player contains two of these tosses.
First, Don and a young lady are in front of The Last Moving Picture Company in Playhouse Square. He talks with a young lady, who is a cocktail waitress and a college student.
Up next, Don talks with a group of people, singling out the shyest person to interview, in front of the Rusty Scupper again in Playhouse Square.
Both establishments are long gone. The streets in the Playhouse Square neighborhood have been realigned, and a plaza and office building are where the Rusty Scupper used to stand at Euclid and East 14th. I recall the restaurant being a multi-level eatery and it having a funky, curved glass facade.
Enjoy.
