CLEVELAND - It may seem as if Black Friday is a newer phenomenon but as this old film shows, post-Thanksgiving shopping was going strong in 1959.
Black, or using the news film stock of the day, Black & White Friday shoppers jammed Euclid Avenue window shopping and enjoying what looked to be a very pleasant November 27, 1959.
We start, however, with downtown preparations from October 15, then on to the post-Thanksgiving shoppers and close with the Cleveland Press Christmas parade.
I had forgotten about the Public Square band shell until previewing these old film clips.
It looks as if Cleveland threw a fantastic parade complete with some very elaborate floats.
Enjoy.
