DENVER - Less than three months after he allegedly opened fire in a crowded movie theater, a Halloween mask of James Holmes was posted for sale on eBay Friday morning.

The mask, complete with bright orange hair, was available for at least an hour before being taken down by eBay.

The seller, registered with eBay as realface13, was asking for a starting bid of $500. As of 10 a.m. Friday, there were no bids for what the seller described as "the most disturbing object you will ever own."

About 10 minutes later, the posting was replaced with this message:

"This listing (271073333981) has been removed, or this item is not available."

eBay told ABC News reporter Clayton Sandell that the listing was removed because it did not comply with the auction site's offensive materials policy.

"Out of respect for victims of violent crimes, eBay does not allow listings that attempt to profit from human tragedy or suffering," they told Sandell.

The posting about the mask said it was made of latex rubber and designed for a private collector overseas.

"There is nothing more scary than crawling into James Holmes mind and wearing his face," the description about the mask said.

The eBay account for realface13 was created on Sept. 2, 2011, but had no feedback from other users and no other items for sale.

Holmes, 24, is accused of killing 12 people and injuring 58 others at a midnight premiere of the latest Batman film at an Aurora theater on July 20.
