It’s a good time to be a kid with a shaky tooth, USA Today reports.
The average child is earning $3 a tooth from their parents, perhaps known to them as ‘the tooth fairy’, according to a survey conducted by Visa.
That’s up 15 percent from last year, and some parents in the survey left as much as $20 under their child’s pillow.
However, child psychologists warn that these sorts of rewards can warp a child’s understanding of money and concept of value.
To help parents pinpoint a fair market value for teeth based on factors like education, location, and income, Visa is rolling out an app for iPhone, iPad and a special calculator on its Facebook page Tuesday.
Some financial experts say that despite the apps intentions, it could lead to parents trying to compete with each other, actually driving inflation up.
